When you reach the Croquet area the first thing that strikes you is the enormous size of the Oak mallets and brightly color Croquet balls. Each ball is the size of a bowling ball! And, the mallets are sized proportionally. You wonder if all of this is for mere mortals or for “over-sized” people! Or, could it be that the size of the mallets and balls make everything appear to be closer (or farther away) depending on where you are standing? Could this be something right out of Alice in Wonderland?
You look up to the , and then look all around you one more time.
You pick up one of the mallets. It is HEAVY! You smack the red ball near by. You are surprised by how fast the ball moves and how far it goes until it goes right through the oversized white wire frame. Good move! This is when you realize how effortless it is to strike the balls. You walk around smacking more balls. Each time the ball goes exactly where you want it to go. You even put one ball next to another one, then put your foot on a ball and strike the ball to make the other pop loose in the opposite direction. You are amazed at how far the ball travels!
You continue for awhile, playing Croquet against imaginary players. Then you sit down in the carpet like grass and contemplate what to do next. As you are doing this, you notice a tall, shadowy figure far off to your left in the rose garden. You’re intrigued by this, because there is also a tiny shadowy figure near the tall figure. Suddenly a thin red line appears from out of nowhere. The line is vertical to the ground and just hoovers. The line is about ten feet in height. Then you watch as the tall figure grabs hold of the glimmering red line and props it open, like it is a curtain. Then the tall figure leaps through the opening which then quickly closes. As the tiny figure looks over towards YOU, the red line disappears as quickly as it appeared from out of nowhere.
You’re definitely through play Croquet. And, you are most definitely interested and intrigued by the shadowing figures and “goings on” over in the rose garden. You wonder if you should head over to rose garden for a look/see.
Or, you could head towards the fountain.
The hedge maze intrigues you, so that is an option at this point as boredom sets in.
Still, you could head back to the terrace of Plantation Mansion.
Time to decide ...
